About CPET

The Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC) in Higher Education Department,Government of Odisha started conducting the Common Entrance Test for admission into P.G. Courses at the State Public Universities and Colleges of the State since the academic session 2020-21 through Student Academic Management System (SAMS). However, from the Academic Session: 2023-24, the State Selection Board (SSB) Odisha, Higher Education Department is conducting the CPET examination.

Objective

The objective of the Common PG Entrance Test (CPET) system is to establish a single window, transparent admission process for postgraduate courses across Odisha, thereby reducing inconvenience for students by eliminating the need to appear for multiple entrance tests at different universities or colleges. It aims to ensure a uniform schedule for degree result declaration, streamline the workload of educational institutions through integrated administrative modules, and generate a subject-wise, state-wide common rank list that allows applicants to secure admission into their preferred universities and colleges based on merit, ultimately making the entire process more efficient, fair, and anxiety-free for students and parents.

Syllabus

The question will consist as per the CBCS UG model syllabus 2019. In multi-disciplinary subjects where one dedicated Undergraduate course is not available, the questions will be from the UG curriculam relevant to the subject applied for, with distribution of questions decided by relative importance of each.

Fees Structure

Select up to 5 subjects and provide university/college preferences in the online Common Application Form (CAF); application fee is ₹500 for General (first subject), ₹300 for SC/ST (first subject), and ₹200 for each additional subject (all categories), with exemptions for PwD, Transgender, orphans, and certain other categories.

  • Admission Process:
    CPET is mandatory for candidates seeking admission to PG courses in state public universities and autonomous colleges under SAMS for the academic session 2025-26.
  • Merit-Based Selection:
    Admission is based on the entrance test score, and candidates are ranked subject-wise across the state.
  • Exam Centers:
    For 2025, exam centers have been set up in all 30 districts of Odisha for the convenience of students.

Below is Previous year paper of CPET Psychology as per 2024 exam pattern :

The entrance examination consisted of multiple-choice type questions
with 1 mark for correct answer and zero for a wrong answer (no negative
marking). The answers have to be marked on OMR sheets as per
instructions given in the sheet. Each paper has a 60-minute duration
with 80 multiple choice questions. – As per the Common Prospectus of CPET 2024.
