About the University
Manipur University, established in 1980 and made a Central University in 2005, is located in Canchipur, Imphal, Manipur. Spread over 287.53 acres, it comprises 9 Schools, 47 departments, and 7 Centres, with 7,396 students. The university has 119 affiliated colleges, including 3 medical colleges, and a constituent college, MIT
It is accredited with a ‘B+’ grade by NAAC in 2023, it plays a key role in higher education and research in the state.
About the Department of Psychology
Manipur University’s Department of Psychology was founded in 2019 and is a division of the School of Human and Environmental Sciences. In 2022, the department launched a Ph.D. program in psychology. It offers a two-year postgraduate degree (M.A./M.Sc. in Psychology). Additionally, there are plans to launch diploma and certificate programs in certain fields of psychology.
In order to address mental health concerns among university students, the department also hopes to set up a Counselling Cell.

Program Overview For MA and M.SC Psychology
- Duration: 2 Years (4 Semesters)
- Total Seats: 70
- Eligibility Criteria: Graduation from any recognized University with a minimum 50% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate (45% for SC/ST or differently abled categories).
- Admission to all Master’s Degree Programmes shall be based on the merit of the students in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).

- Developmental Psychology: Studies how people grow and change from childhood through adulthood.
