About the Department of Psychology, University of Delhi
Historical Background: The Department of Psychology at the University of Delhi was established in 1964 as an independent unit, evolving from the earlier Department of Philosophy and Psychology. It has since emerged as a national leader in psychological education and research.
The department functions across two campuses:
- North Campus (Main Campus): One of the oldest and most prestigious Psychology departments in India. It is known for its rigorous academic training, research focus, and highly competitive environment. It offers M.A. Psychology and Ph.D., with a strong focus on theoretical and empirical research.
- South Campus (Applied Psychology): It offers M.A. Applied Psychology, emphasizing practical applications in community, clinical, and organizational settings.
Eligibility Criteria for both programs
The University of Delhi (DU) accepts candidates for its CUET PG Psychology program under three specific eligibility categories:
Category 1A includes Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized university (no specific subject requirement).
Category 2A is students who have pursued B.A. (Hons.) Psychology or Applied Psychology from University of Delhi.
Category 2B applies to students who have pursued B.A. (Hons.) / B.A. (Prog.) with at least two (02) courses/papers in Psychology / Applied Psychology from University of Delhi.

Academic Strength and Recognition: Recognized under the UGC’s Department of Special Assistance (DSA) and later under the Special Assistance Programme (SAP), the department’s core areas include Cognitive Psychology and Applied Social Psychology.
