About the University
Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University (RMLAU), formerly known as Avadh University, is a state university located in Faizabad, Ayodhya district, Uttar Pradesh. It was established on March 4, 1975, by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and renamed in 1993–94 in honor of freedom fighter and thinker Dr. Rammanohar Lohia.
The university initially operated from a rented space and shifted to its permanent campus after the foundation was laid in 1978. It became an affiliating-cum-residential university in 1984, starting with four PG departments and later expanding under UGC’s 12B scheme. In 2000–01, the Institute of Engineering & Technology was introduced, followed by a wide range of UG and PG courses including Biotechnology, Management, Journalism, Social Work, and more. By 2005–06, several additional programs were added, and five new ones launched in 2017–18.
Currently, RMLAU serves nearly 5 lakh students, including both regular and private, through nine PG departments, an engineering institute, and 600+ affiliated colleges spread across seven districts: Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Ambedkarnagar, Lucknow, Barabanki, Bahraich, and Gonda.
About the Department
The Department of Adult & Continuing Education offers the M.A. in Applied Psychology with the objective of training students to critically understand psychological behavior in society. The program encourages the development of socially responsible individuals who contribute to societal well-being.
The curriculum focuses on 3 key orientations:
- Knowledge Orientation for strong theoretical and practical grounding,
- Job/Vocational Orientation for employment readiness, and
- Social Orientation for understanding human behavior in social contexts.
It integrates scientific psychological theories and methods to tackle behavioral issues, while enhancing students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, and practical application skills.
