Department of Applied Psychology
The Department of Applied Psychology was established in October 2007 to address contemporary societal needs through a two-year postgraduate course that blends theoretical and practical training for professional service. Initially starting with 20 students, it now offers specializations in Clinical Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and Counseling Psychology.
The department introduced a one-year PG Diploma in Industrial Psychology in 2009 and a PhD programme in 2010. With a mission to empower students as confident mental health professionals and a vision of becoming a globally recognized hub for culturally grounded psychological teaching and research, the department features three ICT-enabled classrooms, a seminar room, and two well-equipped labs with psychological tests and clinical equipment like Multi Behavior Therapy and EEG Biofeedback systems. In just over a decade, it has hosted six major conferences (three national, three international), completed eight research projects, and seen its alumni employed in prestigious institutions across India and abroad.

After the first-year internship, students choose one of three specializations like Clinical, Industrial/Organizational, or Counseling Psychology for the third and fourth semesters. These advanced courses combine in-depth theoretical learning with practical fieldwork through internships and dissertation projects. Designed with a focus on India’s cultural context and value system, the program aims to develop students’ competencies to apply psychological knowledge ethically and effectively in real-world settings.
