About the university

The Central University of South Bihar (CUSB), located in Gaya, Bihar, is one of 56 central universities under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Established under the Central Universities Act, 2009, and renamed in 2014, CUSB operates from its 300-acre permanent campus in Panchanpur, 15 km from Gaya town. With the motto Collective Reasoning, the university offers a serene academic environment with state-of-the-art facilities like Aryabhatta Bhawan, Chanakya Bhawan, Malaviya Bhawan, hostels, lecture complexes, and an iconic administrative building. CUSB emphasizes multidisciplinary learning, a high teacher-student ratio, CBCS, and internal assessments at both UG and PG levels. It started in 2009 at the BIT Patna campus with an MA in Development Studies and has since grown into a vibrant institution known for its research-friendly atmosphere, quality faculty, and holistic student support.

Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychological Sciences was established under the School of Human Sciences in 2011. The aim of the department of psychological sciences is to study human beings as a social, cultural and biological species in the context of their experiences, activities, constructs and artefacts. The human nature is not discipline bound and therefore the school emphasizes Multidisciplinary approach to understand it. The department has a mission to pursue quality education and research for greater understanding of human nature and challenges faced by humanity. Discipline like Sociology, Psychology, Social work and other social sciences interactively may engage in research leading to knowledge system that serves the development of mankind. The Department was set up to develop an awareness of the importance of studying human behavior and the societal relevance of psychology. It is presently offering Master’s and PhD programs in Psychology. The department also offers an integrated 5 year program. Department also participates in enhancing the overall well-being of students by facilitating their emotional, interpersonal and intellectual development through Centre of well being.

Doctorate Program

The Ph.D. program at the Department of Psychological Sciences, Central University of South Bihar, is a well-structured initiative aimed at training postgraduate students in conducting high-quality research in psychological sciences. It offers a robust theoretical foundation alongside essential research skills, enabling scholars to undertake independent and rigorous academic investigations. The program places strong emphasis on research methodology and advanced statistics to support effective planning and analysis in psychological research. Currently, research opportunities are available in the areas of Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Organizational Behavior, and Health Psychology. The program is designed to cultivate analytical thinking, preparing students to engage in interdisciplinary research and address theoretical, social, and contemporary human issues. Eligibility for admission to the Ph.D. in Psychology requires a Master’s degree in Psychology with at least 55% aggregate marks (or Grade B on the UGC 7-point scale), with a 5% relaxation for reserved categories. For the Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, candidates must have a Master’s in Psychology and an M.Phil in Clinical Psychology from an RCI-recognized institution, each with a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade), with similar relaxations for eligible categories.
