About the Department
The Department of Psychology at Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), Amarkantak, was established in July 2010 with the introduction of the B.A. Psychology programme under the guidance and academic leadership of its founding faculty member, Dr. Lalit Kumar Mishra. Since its inception, the department has steadily grown in terms of academic strength, curriculum development, and research orientation, aiming to provide quality education in both theoretical and applied areas of psychology.
To further strengthen its academic structure, the department introduced the M.A./M.Sc. Psychology programme in 2016, followed by the launch of the Ph.D. programme in 2017. These additions marked an important step toward promoting higher learning, advanced research, and specialization in different domains of psychology. At present, the department is supported by a team of five dedicated and experienced faculty members who are actively involved in teaching, research guidance, and academic development activities.
The department is also equipped with a well-established psychology laboratory that helps students gain practical exposure to psychological testing, experiments, and research methodologies. In addition, a counselling centre is available, which provides opportunities for students to understand real-life psychological issues and offers basic mental health support services. Through this combination of classroom learning, practical training, and applied exposure, the department effectively integrates theory with practice, preparing students for careers in academia, research, counselling, and related professional fields.
