The Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN), located in Thiruvarur, stands as a prominent center of academic excellence and innovation. Department of Applied Psychology

The Department of Applied Psychology at the Central University of Tamil Nadu was established in 2017, launching its M.Sc. Applied Psychology program in the 2017–18 academic year. The department addresses the growing need for knowledge and application in Behavioral Sciences, offering students a strong foundation in psychological science through both theoretical and practical learning. With a focus on excellence in teaching and research, the department engages faculty and students in the creation and dissemination of knowledge. It recognizes psychology as a broad discipline relevant to various aspects of human behavior and development, preparing students for diverse roles in education, healthcare, research, government, business, NGOs, and more. In response to evolving global challenges, the department offers a two-year full-time M.Sc. Applied Psychology program with three specializations: Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, and Organizational Psychology. It also offers a Ph.D. program in Applied Psychology.

PhD in Applied Psychology

The Ph.D. in Applied Psychology at the Central University of Tamil Nadu was introduced in the academic year 2018–19 to meet the growing demand for advanced research and application in the field of behavioral sciences. Housed under the School of Behavioral Sciences, the Department of Applied Psychology offers this program alongside its M.Sc. and M.Phil. degrees. The department is committed to academic excellence, interdisciplinary learning, and societal impact, with specializations in Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, and Industrial and Organizational Psychology. The Ph.D. program is designed to equip scholars with the skills to critically analyze psychological issues, design and conduct research, and contribute original knowledge to the field. Coursework includes training in quantitative and qualitative methods, research ethics, and subject-specific topics, totaling 16 credits. The department’s faculty members specialize in diverse areas such as suicidology, counselling, clinical psychology, school psychology, and adolescent mental health. Key research thrust areas include mental health, public health, family studies, human resource development, positive psychology, and environmental psychology. The program follows UGC 2016 regulations and emphasizes professional ethics, academic rigor, and high-impact interdisciplinary research.
