Selection Process

Securing admission into the M.Sc. Psychology program involves a highly competitive, structured, and multi-layered meritocratic selection framework. There is no direct management quota; instead, every candidate is systematically assessed on academic consistency, theoretical discipline knowledge, and personal aptitude.

The end-to-end selection timeline involves the following distinct stages:

Step 1: Verification of Basic Eligibility Criteria

Before an application is processed, a candidate must strictly meet the primary eligibility thresholds set by the academic committee:

• Academic Qualification: The candidate must hold a valid Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or a closely related field (such as Social Sciences, Life Sciences, or general Humanities) from a UGC-recognized university.
• Minimum Marks Requirement: A minimum aggregate score of 50% to 60% (or an equivalent CGPA grade) must be maintained in the qualifying undergraduate degree. Relaxations are applied for reserved categories as per statutory university norms.
• Non-Psychology Backgrounds: Candidates shifting disciplines from an un-related bachelor’s background are still eligible to apply but are evaluated carefully and may be required to clear structured academic bridge courses upon final enrollment.

Step 2: Submission of the Online Application and Statement of Purpose (SOP)

The admission cycle kicks off on the university portal. Candidates are required to fill out a comprehensive application detailing their academic scores, extracurricular accolades, and personal documentation.

Alongside the standard application form, candidates must submit a mandatory Statement of Purpose (SOP). The SOP is a crucial screening element where applicants outline their research motivations, professional aspirations, operational understanding of psychology, and why they want to study at Chanakya University.

Step 3: The Entrance Exam – Chanakya University Pravesha Pareeksha (CUPP)

The central pillar of the screening process is the university’s official entrance test: CUPP.

Chanakya University conducts the Chanakya University Pravesha Pareeksha (CUPP) for many UG and PG programmes. Additionally, it accepts national exam scores like JEE, CLAT, CAT, MAT, etc.

Step 4: The Personal Interview (PI) Round

Candidates who successfully pass the baseline cutoff benchmarks of the CUPP examination or possess outstanding equivalent parameters are invited for a highly detailed, compulsory Personal Interview (PI).

The interview panel consists of senior faculty members, clinical practitioners, and academic experts from the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. The PI round evaluates:

• The applicant’s conceptual clarity regarding core behavioral theories.
• Alignment with the university’s multi-disciplinary values.
• Mental agility, ethical decision-making capabilities, and interpersonal empathy.
• The contents of their pre-submitted Statement of Purpose (SOP) and any prior research or internship experience.

Step 5: Final Evaluation, Merit Allocation, and Seat Confirmation

The Admissions Committee compiles a final composite merit score based on a weighted matrix of the student’s Undergraduate Merit (Graduation Marks) + CUPP Performance + Personal Interview Performance.

Selected students receive a formal Admission Offer Letter via their registered email portals. To officially secure the seat, the candidate must submit the initial registration fee and first-year tuition component within one week of receiving the offer. The formal process concludes with physical verification of original academic marks sheets, degree certificates, migration papers, and national ID cards directly at the Devanahalli campus before classes begin.

Chanakya University’s M.Sc. Psychology classes will officially begin on September 9, 2026. Before that, the mandatory student onboarding and registration process will take place on September 4 and 5, 2026.
